Today on The CGP: The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) calls them “Alternative Financial Services” — services outside normal banking systems that low-income consumers depend on… for example, storefronts that offer check-cashing for people without bank accounts and high-interest payday loans. It’s all legal, yet smells of being wildly unethical. And public university presidents considering the insane cost of college, and so many of these individuals telling famlies why they desperately need to raise tuition, something just doesn’t fit.
